Tasmania

Separated from mainland Australia by the treacherous Bass Strait, Tasmania is renowned for its beauty and scenic, untamed wilderness, unique wildlife, and gastronomical delights. Australia’s largest and only island state, Tasmania is recognised for having the cleanest air in the world! This unique island is also home to the largest surviving carnivorous marsupial in the world, the Tasmanian Devil.

Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania, is Australia’s second oldest and southernmost capital city. This charming waterfront city is rich in history and bursting with creativity. Framed by the towering Mt Wellington perched high above the city, Hobart is well known for its popular attractions including the world-renowned art museum MONA, bustling Salamanca Markets, and historic Battery Point.

Surrounded by nature, Hobart is the gateway to world famous destinations throughout Tasmania including the Midlands, Central Highlands, Port Arthur Historic Site, Freycinet National Park, and Tasmania’s first national park, Mount Field National Park.

The city's coastal location makes it convenient for travelling to nearby neighbouring islands, such as Bruny Island and Maria Island. It’s also a gateway to Antarctica! In addition to being one of five global Antarctic gateway cities, Hobart is the world's largest centre for cold-climate research and expertise.
